THE Indoor event info:
Featuring live bands, DJ sets, a barbecue, food and drink promotions, a prize giveaway and surf movie screenings.
Event date: June 4th, 3pm until late
Jaw-dropping extreme sports skills, along with music and DJ sets from some of the Southwest’s favourite acts, are set to make this year’s UK Flowriding Championships at Retallack Resort & Spa an event not to be missed. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural competition, the 2011 event on Saturday 4th June is set to be even bigger and better, with a barbecue, drink promotions, surf movie screenings and prize giveaways adding to the mix.
For those wishing to participate, applications for entry are now being accepted. Spectators meanwhile can look forward to a day of great music, fantastic food and drink from the Loop bar, restaurant and barbecue and all the adrenalin-pumping excitement of the competition itself, in which some of the country’s top riders will be performing carves, flips, spins and aerials during a series of heats throughout the day.
Categories for men’s stand-up, women’s stand-up, bodyboarding and team (designed to be a fun all-inclusive event) will all be held, with current European Women’s Champion Morwenna ‘Mo’ Berry from Watergate Bay, Cornwall, among those taking part.
“Last year was incredible and I can’t wait for the champs in June,” says Mo. “We had a huge turnout, the sun was shining and it was a real spectacle. The great thing about the flowrider is that you are always really close to the action so you can see exactly how the riders are performing. It will be great to check out how the standard of UK riding has been progressing and we’re looking forward to seeing plenty of new faces.”
The event itself is free to spectate and will start at 3pm, continuing throughout the afternoon and evening. Entry for the open costs £35 which includes 3 hours of practice time, entry for the bodyboarding and women’s stand-up costs £30 with 2 hours of practice time, and entry for the team event costs £80 per team of four (£20 each).
