6 day course for £250

We have been running bespoke surf life saving courses tailor made to clubs and students for nearly a decade here on Gower and are going to start running formal qualifications such as the NARS Surf coach award which is a requirement if you wish to become a British surf coach and work for a BSA approved surf school.

The course costs £250 and includes the registration/membership of SLSA GB and the examination fees on your last day of the course. The London Surf club stayed at Clyne farm which offers an excellent location to base yourself 10 minutes away from Caswell Bay our HQ for water based training.

Please note we do require a minimum of five people on the course for us to run it. All payment must be payed in advanced along with the booking form and information which we require to send to the SLSA GB.

Surf Coach Award breakdown
This award is the premier award for candidates who wish to work as Surf
Instructors and need a lifesaving qualification to combine with their surf
instructor qualification. This award is valid for three years.

Important Course Facts

• 5-day course Mon – Fri, 1 day Exam on Sat
• Candidates must be 16 years or older on the date of the exam
• Swim 400 metres in a 25 metre pool in under 9 minutes 30 seconds
(16 lengths) using a forward stroke. N.B a time of 9 minutes 31
seconds is a course fail, don’t forget to train!
• Run 200 metres (on sand) in under 60 seconds
• You must be able to run and swim in all surf and weather conditions on
a daily basis while undertaking the lifeguard course.

Ideal Pre – Requisites

• Be able to manoeuvre a rescue/surfboard in surf over one metre
• Have a basic knowledge of beach and coastal environments i.e. wave
knowledge.

The NARS Surf Coach Lifesaver course will provide training for the above
points

• Lifeguard signals test
• Run test – 200m in 60 seconds
• Pool swim – 400m in 9 min 30 seconds
• Tube rescue
• Board rescue
• Demonstrate deep water EAV (expired air ventilation)
• Two man drag
• Take part in a multiple casualty rescue situation
• Spinal injury management
• First aid questions
• CPR adult, child, infant
• Choking adult, child, infant
• Oxygen
• Worksheet questions

Course Structure

Each day is split between water work sessions conducted at Caswell Beach
and dry work sessions. Each evening candidates must complete worksheets, you will be asked questions on these on the exam day.

Cost

The course cost is £250 pp and this includes your manual, exam fee, and an
Appointed Person 1st Aid certificate.  Re-take course fees are £200 pp.  Group
rates are also available bookings for 5 or more people.

Course Validation Period

The award is valid for three years from date of examination.
