Swansea welcomes this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales, Europe’s largest cultural festival, between 5th and 12th of August!
Swansea will be welcoming visitors from across Wales and beyond to sample the delights of this year’s Eisteddfod with around 20,000 visitors expected to the festival every day!
An opening concert on the 4th of August will kick-start the festivities in style, with guest artists including Katherine Jenkins and award-winning Male Voice Choirs.
GSD staff will be offering surfing advice, classes on surfing and giving out the new SurfGSD stickers. We are on the stage opposite the Ospreys stand, come and say hello. Also, during the following days of the Festival, the central pavilion (Maes) will be hosting singing, dancing and choir competitions as well as colourful ceremonies of awarding a Crown, a Chair and Prose Medal by the Gorsedd of Bards. You can also enjoy evening concerts by international soloists and orchestras and by a specially formed local choir of 500 voices.
Other highlights will include a visual arts exhibition, a theatre, literature studio, science and technology pavilion, dance hall, sports corner, lecture theatre, societies’ centre and a learners’ centre, each with a full programme of exhibitions, performance and discussions. Over 300 stalls, shops and attractions will add to this vibrant, happy-go-lucky bazaar of cultures which is unique to Wales.
Do not miss a visit to Swansea Pod Abertawe, Swansea’s window to the world in the Council pavilion and have a go at the surf simulator to see if an activity day on one of Gower’s celebrated beaches is for you! There will also be a Visitor Information Point providing help and advice for anyone wanting to extend their stay in Swansea Bay or book for a visit later in the year.
The Eisteddfod will be held at Felindre, the former British Steel tinplate works, on the outskirts of Swansea.
