The Fat Face Night Surf is nearly here; back at Lusty Glaze Beach between 27-29th June!
Now in its eighth year, the competition is more popular than ever with virtually all of the 2,000 tickets for Saturday’s main event having been snapped up already.
Part of the UKPSA (UK Pro Surf Association), some of the best UK and international talent will be on the water. One to watch out for is Newquay’s own, Mark Harris. The England international has just won the opening leg of the UK Pro Tour season in Croyde.
In the women’s comp, Nicole Morgan from Ireland is the favourite and leads the ratings having won the Women’s Open on the tour, earlier this month.
If you haven’t managed to get your tickets you’ll be able to check out the action on the water on Friday, 27th June or during the day on Saturday 28th June, until 17.00. There’s also the Grommet’s Competition on the Sunday, which is well worth a look with U12 names due to hit the surf including Liskeard’s Ed Smith, Newquay’s Dale Foster and Jack Davies all in hot pursuit of the title.
Fat Face will be providing free surf lessons at the event for would-be surf hopefuls, with Team Riders offering words of advice and vital tips. Having just launched its own range of surfboards (Mini Mal, Classic Nose Rider and Fish), Fat Face will be showcasing its kit and encouraging people to have a go, regardless of experience.
Will Blair, marketing manager, Fat Face comments: “The competition grows year on year and tickets for the event have been snapped up in the blink of an eye! Because the event is completely free for spectators with surf lessons, volleyball, awesome surf at night under spotlight, fireworks and a band all thrown in, it’s no surprise the event has become such a firm favourite. People travel from far and wide to make a weekend of it.
“Lusty Glaze is also a fantastic location with the Adventure Centre providing people with a host of extreme sports and activities to try.
“With over 150 competitors expected, Fat Face is delighted to back for another year and promises to make this another spectacular event.”
Dave Reed, Contest Director from the UKPSA commented: “This is a unique event for surfing; the only time surfers compete at night in the UK. This year the talent the event has attracted will offer the spectators an opportunity to view surfing at its best at the stunning location of Lusty Glaze Beach.”
In keeping with all the events on the UK Pro Surf Tour Relentless Energy Drink will be awarding £250 to the surfer who performs the best floater of the contest, which could come from the Open, Women’s, Longboard or Grommet divisions.
If you still want to get your hands on some of the gold dust tickets for the action-packed finals taking place under the cover of darkness on the Saturday then check out the local press for competition entries or visit www.fatface.com/nightseries
